Disease Registries

Background

National disease registries serve as a systematic surveillance system which collects information about all new diagnosed cases in the population.
CEBIS has experience in building disease registries to serve as a basis for calculation of incidence and prevalence of diseases.

In “identified registries”, additional indicators such as survival rates may also be calculated.

The main purposes of disease registries are:

  • To provide an overall picture of the disease
  • To serve as a source of information regarding standards of treatment according to accepted clinical guidelines
  • To enable comparison between methods of diagnosis and treatment in various centers and in various countries
  • To serve as a basis for epidemiological studies and for intervention programs
  • To provide data to facilitate assessment of trends in morbidity
